Happy for What

For a long time, I've been confused by the ecstatic expression on people's faces when others offered them meals - either pay for the meals or cook for them. In the past two months, after I felt the soaring Engel's coefficient, teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. The reason for their ecstasy eventually dawned on me.

Let's be clear first, all the food that goes down the throat to the stomach will turned into excrement, well, the body absorb the nutrients befor letting go of the rest. In the busy morden world, instead of picking food from the soil, people buy food from groceries. Hence the process of food consumption including the transformation of money to food. Therefore, we see the money-food-excrement chain. When the income is not infinite within a month, the more one spends on food, the less the individual can spend on other things lasting for longer. If they don't spend a penny on food, they can spend more on hobbies or better bags clothes etc to show off. Because all money spent on food become shit. When someone else is willing to pay for the food, people don't have to witness their own money which they exchanged with their labor to become shit. There is no reason to not feel happy for saving money. Especially when people are offered free meals made by premium ingredients.

Can we stop spending money on food to prevent it from becoming shit? No, we can't. It is not only about survivor but also about the psychological satisfaction that engraved in the gene prior to the human civilization.

As someone who prefers not to eat, I should put a big smile on my face if anyone buys me a meal next time, the behaviour deserves the excitement on the face.
